131 - Lesson 50 Part 2 - Capitalism and Labor

THE TIBETAN MASTER DJWAL KHUL

The Following is a quote from the Tibetan's Book of Prophecies:

...In what is called straitened circumstances, man can readjust his life and change his way of living, thus discovering that freedom from material things carries with it its own beauty and reward, its own joy and glory.  Thus he is liberated to live the life of the mind.  The cause of all human suffering is desire and personal selfishness.  Give up desire and you will be free.  Underlying the entire psychological problem of humanity as a whole, lies that major attitude towards existence which we characterize as Desire.

All lesser complexities are based upon, subservient to, or are emergent from this basic urge . . .To these longings and wishes, and the labor incidental to their fulfillment, all men give their lives; and everything done is in an effort to meet the realized need, to face the challenge of existence with the demand for happiness, for heaven, and for the eventual fulfillment of the hoped for ideal state - If the URGE to satisfy DESIRE is the basic URGE of the form or PHYSICAL LIFE of man, the URGE to SERVE AND OBEY!  These are the watchwords of the disciple's life . . .i.e service of, and obedience to, THE SOUL IN ALL . . The law of desire, which has governed him for ages, will slowly and surely give place to the law of repulse, which will, in time, free him from the thralldom of the not-self.  it will lead him to those discriminations, and that dispassionate attitude, which is the hallmark of the man who is on his way to liberation . . . .

Mark His words well, for herein lies the secret of becoming liberated, we are now on the threshold of our future; but if we continue along the path of materialism, the idea that by getting and accruing material things that we all will be happy! NOT, because  the only true happiness one can rely on while here on Earth is the obedience to our Solar Angel and/or Soul, who prompts us to serve
The Solar Angel/ or Our Soul

 and to renounce the promptings of the "not-self" to stay anchored
 to the wheel of karma, by continuing along the path of DESIRE, rather finally becoming free from the trappings of materialism...  Last week we spoke of what happened to mankind under the rulership of Capitalism, and living "from paycheck to paycheck"  this week we'll look at the opposing force - those who are under the yoke of these Capitalists, who control all of the resources, all of the major financial institutes and our very lives.  Let's study along with the Tibetan Mahatma, how Hierarchy sees the situation and some of the suggestions for how we can turn things around so that all men are truly equal in all things.  One of the prayers we do each and every week in the World Service is this:

"Visualize all souls who have been trained on inner levels by Hierarchy taking over Government, Finance, Corporate and Spiritual offices throughout the World. That they’ll be seated in those positions of power in order to negotiate peace throughout the World and redistribute the wealth to ensure the reappearance of the Christ."

The Tibetan: Let us now look at the opposing group - LABOR

A powerful group, representing the capitalistic system, both national and international, and an equally powerful group of labor unions and their leaders, face each other today. Both groups are national and international in cope.  It remains to be seen which of the two will eventually control the planet, or if a third group, made up of practical idealists may not emerge and take over.  The interest of the spiritual workers in  the world today is not on the side of the capitalists, nor even of labor as it is now functioning; it is on the side of humanity .

. . . Educational facilities also grew, and with this came the demand by the laboring classes for better living conditions, higher pay, and more leisure.  This the employers have constantly fought; they organized themselves against the demands of the awakening mass of men, and precipitated a condition which forces labor to take action.

Gradually employees and laborers came together for mutual protection and their just rights.  The Labor Union movement came into being eventually, with its formidable weapons:  education for freedom and the strike.  Many discovered that in union there is strength, and that together they could defy the employer and wrest from the monied interests decent wages, better living conditions, and that greater leisure which is the right of every man.  The fact of the steadily increasing power of labor and of its international strength, is well known and a primary modern interest.

Like everything else in this world, Unions were created to help the laborer, who was working long hours; receiving low wages; and no benefits...The idea developed at the beginning of the last century when so many children were working right along with their parents in terrible and many times dangerous places of work - often these children went into the mines, as wages were so low, there was no way that a child could be educated when there were mouths to feed at home; and so, they were used and they usually died quite young from inhaling coal dust from the "black lung disease".

My Mother was 17 years old when she had to leave school because my grandfather had his eye put out from a spike while working on the railroad - there was no insurance, no benefits; and therefore my two older uncles and my mother had to go to work.  Luckily my uncles got employment at the Navy Yard; while my mother was not so lucky, she ended up working in the mills... the atmosphere within these mills was depressing, there were no breaks, young and old arrived at the crack of dawn and worked 14 to 16 hours days... this was capitalism pushing their thumbs down on the poor and desperate immigrants who came from even worse conditions in Europe, and kept their mouths shut in order to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table.

Over a period of time, the people began to gather together, forming groups, for they understood that one person could do nothing to improve their lot in life; but a group of people all walking off the job in protest would cause the factory or mill to come  to a screeching halt; and Viola! the Union was born.

But like all good things that were altruistic - even the Labor Unions eventually became places run by thugs, powerful people who were not interested in benefiting the worker; but more interested in how much they could accrue for themselves - sometimes even allowing the owners to get their way rather than those they were supposed to represent.  In the beginning it was wonderful, they fought for shorter hours, better pay, better working conditions, and for children to become educated rather than used as slave labor.. .

Powerful individuals among the union leaders came to the surface of the movement.  Some of the employers, who had the best interests of their workers at heart, stood by them and aided them.  They were relatively a small minority; but they served to weaken the confidence and power of the majority.  The fight of the workers is still going on; gains are steadily being made; shorter hours and better pay are constantly being demanded, and when refused the weapon of the strike is used.  The use of the strike, so beneficent and helpful in the early days of the rise of labor to power, is now itself becoming a tyranny in the hands of the unscrupulous and self-seeking.  labor leaders are now so powerful that many of them have shifted into the position of dictators, and are exploiting the mass of workers whom they earlier served.  Labor is also becoming exceedingly rich, and untold millions have been accumulated by the great national organizations everywhere.  The Labor Movement is itself now capitalistic.

When my sister worked for an international airline, all of the flight attendants belonged to an international powerful union; when she decided to form an "Independent Union of Flight Attendants" her life was threatened by representatives of their international union, her husband's life was threatened and all those who claimed affiliation with her were also threatened; but they persisted and won over both the Union and the Company.

Remember this Union covered not only the Flight Attendants but the mechanics, ticket agents, so this was a big gain for all of these individuals because all of them were equally part of the Union; while it was a major loss for the international union - soon, other airline employees were in contact with my sister and their flight attendants formed independent unions as well. Again, some unions are run correctly with the responsibilities equally shared with a committee made up of people from each segment i.e. ticket agents, scheduling, mechanics and flight attendants - and like "the Republic for which we stand" this is really an Aquarian concept that was first introduced by that famous Mahatma, Plata and his "Republic".

" . . . Therefore, all is not right with the labor movement.  The question arises, whether it is not sorely in need of a drastic housecleaning.  With the coming-in of labor governments in certain countries, with the growth of democracy and the demand for freedom, with the uprising of the rule of the proletariat in Russia, and the higher educational standard of the race, it might well appear that new, better and different methods may now be used to implement the Four Freedoms and to insure right human relations. If there is a realization that there should be right human relations among nations, it is obvious that such relations should also exist between capital and labor - composed as both groups are of human beings - and between the quarreling labor organizations, Labor is today a dictatorship, using threat, fear and force to gain its ends.  Many of its leaders are powerful and ambitious men, with a deep love of money, and a determination to wield power.  Bad housing, poor pay and evil conditions still exist everywhere, and it is not in every case the fault of the employer..."

Well, that certainly sums up what we see occurring in North Korea, Russia, China, some areas of the Middle East, Poland and now the Philippines.  Now let us look at these United States, picked out by Hierarchy for the Four Freedoms - even the God of Freedom has His Retreat over Washington D. C. along with Portia, the Goddess of Justice, while Liberty resides in Her retreat over the ancient land of New York and the Seven Archangels preside over various regions throughout this country and  Hierarchy forms the Brotherhood with the Archangels, Angels, Devas and the elemental kingdom.  Each group represents one of the Four Freedoms.  In the very center of the country close to the "great divide" the Brothers of Wisdom dwell in their retreat guarding the "illumination flame" over the Royal Teton Mountains.  The Elohim Vista (the all-seeing eye)

moves between Mount Shasta and the Royal Tetons and although even the I AM Group have drawings of Him and most Masonic Halls sport His likeness, none of them have actually seen Him as we did during that World Service.

But again, speaking of the USA, we as citizens are also known as patriots for we love our country and our many freedoms - yet, in the last few years, it seems those very freedoms are now being threatened,  there seems to be a cancer within our federal government that is eating away at each and every fiber that holds  these truths viable - these very freedoms that our fore fathers fought and paid with their lives, so that all future generations would be able to live in Peace, Freedom, Liberty and Brotherhood - it was planned out that people would come under the statue of Liberty, as they left slavery, bigotry, racism, hatred behind them to meld into the melting pot of the pursuit of happiness.  This was what our country was created for; but sadly things that start off with the very best of intentions slowly begin to slip backwards into the very Banana Republic that most of our fore fathers came from.  This is the situation we are finding ourselves in right here and right now  - we are being stripped of every semblance of freedom and if we continue to allow this to happen, there will be no "second chance" this is it my fellow Americans, we need to deal with this situation before we're once again wearing the collar of serfdom in these United States.

The note to be struck, and the work to be emphasized is humanity.

Only one dominant concept can today save the world from a looming economic fight to the DEATH, an prevent the uprising again of the materialistic systems of the past, can stop the re-emerging of the old ideas and concepts, and can bring to an end the subtle control by the financial interests, and the violent discontent of the masses.  A belief in human unity must be endorsed. This unity must be grasped as something worth fighting and dying for; it must constitute the new  foundation for all our political, religious and social reorganization, and must provide the theme for our educational systems.  Human unity, human understanding, human relationships, human fair-play and the essential oneness of all men - these are the only concepts upon which to bring to construct the new world, through which to abolish competition, and to bring to an end the exploitation of one section of humanity by another, and the hitherto unfair possession of the earth's wealth.  As long as there are extremes of riches and poverty, men are falling short of their high destiny.

Again, it takes a pandemic for all of us to open our hearts and realize that we are all one, all children of the most High God, and hopefully through this realization we can move forward rather than backward, for what we conceived as back  to normal was going back to the ugliness that we created in our beautiful world - now is the time to bring together all people in every country, unified in trying to find a cure for this terrible virus, while at the same time, putting aside old fears and hatreds, and reaching out by the act of communication, giving a helping hand, and talking about how to maintain peace and goodwill to all mankind everywhere in the world - this is all part of the Divine Plan and it's also our "wake-up" call before we, through our own misuse of God's energy, destroy our planet and her people. Now listen to what the Mahatma tells us is what awaits us if we can only put aside our selfishness and ask forgiveness every day for harming any part of life:

The Kingdom of God can appear on Earth, and this in the immediate future, but the members of this kingdom recognize neither rich nor poor, neither high nor low, neither labor nor capital, but only the children of the One Father, and the fact - natural and yet spiritual - that all men are brothers.  Here lies the solution of the problem with which we are dealing.  The spiritual Hierarchy of our planet recognizes neither capital nor labor; it recognizes only men and brothers .  The solution is, therefore, education and still more education, and the adaptation of the recognized trends of the times to the vision seen by the spiritually minded, and by those who love their fellow men.

When the Labor Movement is swept by the energy of goodwill, basic changes in world affairs will take place.  I would ask all  workers for goodwill to attempt to reach labor in all countries with these ideas, correctly presented.

I would like to finish this lesson by reminding all of us about Beethoven's "Ode to Joy", when his friend sent him the poem of the Ode to Joy, Beethoven sat down and composed the music to accompany this precious work - remember from the 5th symphony forward Beethoven was completely deaf, so from the 5th to the 9th Symphony he was hearing only "the music of the spheres" the very music that makes our planets rotate and the universe move to its very beat - here are the words - for unless we love our Brothers there will never be an Ode to Joy....MF

lyrics

Ode to Joy (Joyful Joyful We Adore Thee) Lyrics:

Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee,

God of glory, Lord of love;
Hearts unfold like flow’rs before Thee,
Op’ning to the sun above.

Melt the clouds of sin and sadness;

Drive the dark of doubt away;
Giver of immortal gladness,
Fill us with the light of day!

All Thy works with joy surround Thee,

Earth and heav’n reflect Thy rays,
Stars and angels sing around Thee,
Center of unbroken praise.

Field and forest, vale and mountain,

Flow’ry meadow, flashing sea,
Singing bird and flowing fountain
Call us to rejoice in Thee.
Thou art giving and forgiving,
Ever blessing, ever blest,
Wellspring of the joy of living,
Ocean depth of happy rest!

Thou our Father, Christ our Brother,

All who live in love are Thine;
Teach us how to love each other,
Lift us to the joy divine

Mortals, join the happy chorus,

Which the morning stars began;
Father love is reigning o’er us,
Brother love binds man to man.

Ever singing, march we onward,

Victors in the midst of strife,
Joyful music leads us Sunward
In the triumph song of life.
